100MB'lık bir klasör genellikle 60-70MB'a sıkıştırılır.

7Z: 7Z, LZMA2 sıkıştırması kullanarak ZIP'ten %20-40 daha küçük çıktı dosyaları elde eder.

Winner: 7Z

Uyumluluk

Winner: ZIP

Açık Kaynak

ZIP: ZIP, açık bir standarttır. Tüm platformlarda ücretsiz araçlar mevcuttur.

7Z: 7Z ve 7-Zip tamamen açık kaynak ve ücretsizdir.

Winner: Her ikisi de ücretsiz

How the Three Archive Formats Differ

ZIP, the long-standing standard since 1989, most commonly uses the DEFLATE algorithm and compresses each file in the archive independently.[1][2] 7Z, the open-source format of 7-Zip, defaults to the LZMA/LZMA2 algorithm, which uses a much larger dictionary and range coding, and supports solid compression that treats multiple files as one continuous stream.[3][4] RAR, the proprietary format behind WinRAR, uses its own dictionary-based algorithm and also supports solid archives and recovery records.[5][6]

Compression Ratio

Solid compression and the large LZMA dictionary generally give 7Z and RAR higher compression ratios than ZIP, especially across many similar files, at the cost of slower processing and the loss of per-file random access.[4] ZIP's independent per-file compression is faster and allows any single file to be extracted without processing the rest, but it cannot exploit redundancy between files, so its archives are typically larger.[2]

Recovery and Encryption

RAR's distinctive features are built-in recovery records, which can repair a partially damaged archive, and clean multi-volume splitting for distributing large archives across several files.[6] All three formats support encryption; 7Z and modern ZIP and RAR offer AES, with 7Z and RAR additionally able to encrypt the list of file names. ZIP's legacy encryption is weak and should not be relied upon, though AES-based ZIP encryption is available in modern tools.[3]

Licensing and Availability

A key practical distinction is openness. ZIP and 7Z are open formats that can be created and read by free software without licensing restrictions.[1][3] Creating RAR archives requires the proprietary WinRAR or its command-line tool, although extracting RAR is more widely supported. This is the main reason RAR, despite strong compression and recovery features, is less commonly chosen for general distribution.[5]

Compatibility and Applications

ZIP is natively supported by Windows, macOS, and essentially every operating system without extra software, making it the default for sharing where compatibility matters most.[1] 7Z is used where maximum free, open compression is the priority and both parties can install 7-Zip or a compatible tool. RAR is used where its recovery records and solid compression are valued and licensed software is available.[5]
