How File Processing Works - FileFormer

Learn how FileFormer runs every tool entirely in your browser, with no uploads, no server step, files that never leave your device, and safe file-use choices.

100% in your browser

How file processing works

FileFormer runs every tool entirely on your own device. Conversion and compression happen locally in your browser using JavaScript, WebAssembly, and modern web APIs, so your files are never uploaded to a server.

Three steps, zero uploads

From the moment you pick a file to the moment you download the result, everything stays on your device.

You choose a file

When you select or drop a file, your browser reads it into local memory. It is opened by the page you are on, not sent anywhere.

Your device does the work

The conversion or compression runs in code that executes inside your browser tab, using your own processor. There is no server step in between.

You download the result

The finished file is handed straight back to you as a download. Because it was made on your device, no copy exists anywhere else.

What this means for you

Client-side processing is not just a technical detail. It changes what happens to your files, your privacy, and your control.

Your files are never uploaded

Because processing is fully client-side, your files are not transferred over the network, stored, or seen by us at any point. We cannot retain, inspect, or reuse them, because they never reach us.

Private by design

Since files never leave your device, there is nothing for us to store, log, or analyze. We do not use your files for training, advertising, or analytics. They simply stay with you.

No account, no sign-up

No email, identity check, or payment is needed to use any tool. If you ever meet a tool that asks for those, treat it as a bug and tell us at editorial@fileformer.com.

Limited only by your device

Practical limits depend on your device's memory and processing power, not a server cap. There are no paid tiers and no throttling, though very large files may run slowly on lower-end hardware.

Suited to sensitive files

Documents with personal, medical, financial, or legal information stay on your device and are never uploaded. We do not provide formal attestations such as HIPAA or SOC 2, so use your own judgment for regulated workflows.

Verify it yourself

You do not have to take our word for it. Open your browser's developer tools, watch the network tab while you convert a file, and you will see that no upload request is made.

Every tool, the same promise

From JSON formatting, Base64 encoding, and text utilities to image, audio, video, document, and archive conversion, every tool on FileFormer runs directly in your browser. Your file stays on your device the whole time, with no server step and no copy left behind.
