Adding Page Numbers to a PDF

  1. Open your PDF

Drop the file onto the upload area or click to browse. The page count appears so you know how many pages will be stamped.

  2. Choose position, style, and start

Pick a corner or centre, top or bottom, for the number. Choose a plain number, a Page N label, or an N of total count. Set the starting number if your first page should not be page one.

  3. Stamp and download

Press Add Page Numbers. Each page is stamped in the chosen spot and the numbered PDF is offered for download. Your original file is left untouched.

Positions and Number Styles

Six placements and three styles cover the common ways documents are numbered. Mix a position with a style to match a report, a manuscript, or a legal filing.

ChoiceOptionsGood for
PositionBottom center, bottom right, bottom left, top center, top right, top leftMatching a house style or avoiding a header or footer already on the page
Plain number1, 2, 3Clean numbering that stays out of the way
Page NPage 1, Page 2Reports and handouts where a label reads more clearly
N of total1 of 12, 2 of 12Print-outs and contracts where readers need to know the length
Start numberAny value, for example start at 0 or 5Skipping a cover page or continuing from an earlier document

Where the Numbers Land and What They Touch

Set in from the edge

Each number is drawn in a fixed margin from the page edge, clear of most content but inside the printable area.

Stamped, not replaced

The number sits on top of the page, so the original text, images, and layout stay intact and selectable.

Avoids an existing footer

If a page already has a footer, choose a top position so the new number does not overlap it.

Accurate totals

Numbers count up from your starting value, and an N of total label uses the real page count so it is always correct.
