PDF Splitting Tips

Extract specific pages

Use the page range selector to extract only the pages you need. For example, extracting pages 3-7 from a 50-page report gives you just the relevant section.

Splitting forms and invoices

If you have a batch of scanned forms or invoices merged into one file, splitting by page count creates individual files for each document.

Reduce email attachment size

Split a large presentation or report into smaller chapters so each part fits within email attachment limits. Recipients get a cleaner reading experience.

Private by design

PDF splitting runs entirely in your browser, so your files are never uploaded to any server and never leave your device.

How to Split a PDF in Your Browser

  1. Load your PDF

Drag a PDF onto the upload area or click to browse and select one. pdf-lib reads the file in the browser when supported, and the tool reports how many pages it contains. For sensitive documents, confirm the active workflow before processing.

  2. Pick a split mode

Choose Page Range to pull specific pages such as 1-3, 5, 7-9 into one file, Every N Pages to break the document into equal chunks of N pages, or Extract All Pages to turn every page into its own PDF.

  3. Split and download each part

Click Split PDF. Each resulting file appears in the results list with its page count, size, and a dedicated Download button, so you can save only the parts you need.

Choosing the Right Split Mode

This splitter offers three modes. The mode you pick controls how many output files you get and how pages are grouped. All modes copy pages exactly as they are, preserving fonts, images, and layout.

ModeWhat you enterOutput filesBest for
Page RangeRanges like 1-3, 5, 7-9One PDF with the selected pagesPulling a chapter or a few specific pages

Which Approach Fits Your File

I need one section

Use Page Range and type the span, like 12-18. The tool collects those pages into a single new PDF you can download in one click.

I have merged scans

If several forms or invoices were scanned into one file, Every N Pages with a matching chunk size separates them into individual documents automatically.

I want every page apart

Choose Extract All Pages. Each page becomes its own PDF, each listed with a separate Download button for selective saving.

My file is large

There is no fixed page limit, but splitting runs in your browser, so very large PDFs depend on your device memory and may take a little longer.

Common Problems and Fixes

It says no valid pages were found

Your range likely falls outside the document. Page numbers start at 1 and cannot exceed the total page count shown after loading. Adjust the numbers and try again.

My password-protected PDF will not open

Encrypted PDFs cannot be split here. Remove the password in a PDF editor first, then upload the unlocked file.

The range mode gave me one file, not several

Page Range always produces a single PDF containing every page you listed. To get multiple files, switch to Every N Pages or Extract All Pages.

Nothing happens when I click Split

Make sure a PDF is loaded and that JavaScript is enabled. Reload the page and re-select the file if needed.
